That weekend was very difficult! It seemed everything was falling apart right in front of me. I received notice one of our events in Brazil was postponed and shortly after we heard the concert Kimberly and I was going to that night for our anniversary was canceled. Then local DFW mayors banned all gatherings over five hundred people (and later no gatherings over 10). Then the announcement that all kinds of sports events were canceled and schools and colleges were temporarily closed. It got worse.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…
you were called to peace” Col 3:13 NIV
Even our local Gateway Church family could not meet this weekend. Then I heard from a friend in Jerusalem that Israel is sending all tourists home and allowing no one to come into the country and stay in hotels. The stock market took the fastest drop since the great depression while industries and businesses are laying off millions of people worldwide. What madness. I can’t imagine what you and your family are experiencing.
My emotions were all over the place, as are probably yours. I tried to get perspective of all of this from God’s viewpoint. Without proper theology, people cannot make correct decisions. Theology forms all our thoughts and behaviors of life. It determines how we think and live.
Grateful that President Trump called the United States to pray Sunday, I did just that. Then reflecting on all the events, challenges, changes, restrictions, and the bombardment of the negative talk I felt the Lord speak to my spirit. How would Jesus think and believe about all of this? I found myself asking what are Jesus’ thoughts? I realized that having the mind of Christ would help me right now.
So, here is the peaceful perspective I discovered. It helped me calm my spirit and may help you. I encourage you to let God’s Word, Jesus’ thoughts, wash your spirit in this very unusual and challenging season.
Will you let your spirit be filled with fear? Or will you say, “I will listen to what the Lord will say; He promises peace to His people…” Ps 85:8 NIV
It is very difficult to grasp or even comprehend what is happening. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:7 NIV
Jesus says to you, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So, don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT
Only God can give us the right perspective—a wise and peaceful perspective. Only He can ultimately stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease and provide for your family. "I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior," 1 Tim 2:1-3 NLT
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you His peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.” 2 Thess 3:16 NLT
