So many people amid the Covid-19 pandemic are worried and fearful. Christians should be concerned and act responsibly but not fearful. Charles Simpson once said that anxiety is a mild case of atheism. When a Christian has excessive worry, fear, and apprehension it says they don’t believe God exists so they have to take control of the situation. The truth is God does exist and IS able!
“…God is able to give you more than you need
so that you will always have all you need for yourselves
and more than enough for every good cause.” 2 Cor 9:8 GNT
“Now all glory to God, who IS able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Eph 3:20 NLT
Here are four things you can do to navigate through this pandemic crisis.
Spiritually – Put God first in all that you do by tithing (important because He said He would rebuke the devourer for you if you tithe), prayer (that the plague be stopped), worship (honor God), and reading the Word. Create an atmosphere rich with the presence of God. Play worship songs and sing praise to Him.
Physically – Stay home, cover your cough and sneezes, wash your hands thoroughly and clean surfaces often. Tip: I found toilet paper is available in some stores in the mornings.
Emotionally – Affirm your love for each family member individually. Experts say there are spikes in domestic violence and suicide when families are stressed. That is why expressions of love, affection, and affirmation are very important right now.
Financially – Dave Ramsey would say take care of your four walls. Those for us are tithe, food, utilities, and shelter. Cut out all unnecessary expenses. Pause your debt snowball, just pay minimums and accumulate what cash you can. Dip into your emergency fund only if you need to. It is for emergencies which this may be for you.
Remember you are not just a fair-weather Christian. You are an overcomer--a person of faith not only in good times but in very challenging times as well. So be positive! God is with you and is looking out for you. Declare God’s Word in this situation. Take control of your environment--inside and outside. Remember you are not a thermometer you are a thermostat! Make a difference. Lead your family well.
Here are key scriptures to declare and meditate on in this crisis. Personalize these verses by putting in your name as you read and confess them.
"...my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Phil 4:19 ESV
"Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease…. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday."
Ps 91:1-3, 6 NLT
"Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth." Ps 124:8 ESV
"…whoever listens to Me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm." Proverbs 1:33 NIV
I encourage you to keep your faith in God strong for He is able to help you through this season.
