This morning I awoke thinking of the greatness of God. God’s awesomeness inspires my spirit to meditate on Him and worship Him. The Bible encourages us to “Remember the wonders he has done.” (1 Samuel 12:24) “…Fear the LORD, and ... consider what great things He has done for you.” (2 Samuel 7:22)

God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! Isa 40:22

Here is what the Bible says about greatness of God.

  1. His greatness cannot be fully known. "Great [is] the LORD, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness [is] unsearchable." (Psalm 145:3)

  2. He is infinitely large. "He holds the oceans in his hand. He measures the heavens with his finger. He knows the weight of the earth. He has weighed the mountains and hills." (Isa 40:12) “He picks up the world as if it was a grain of sand” (Isa 40:12)

  3. He is above all that is. “God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them." (Isa 40:22)

  4. He controls the heaven. "Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing." (Isa 40:26)

  5. He is not impressed with countries and their achievements. "All the nations of the world are a drop in His bucket.” (Isa 40:15) "They are nothing more than a speck of dust...They are worth nothing to him. They are mere emptiness and froth.” (Isa 40:15, 17)

  6. He is wise and all-knowing. “Who is able to advise the Spirit of God?” (Isa 40:13) “Who knows enough to give Him advise?” (Vs 13) “Did someone instruct Him about what is good?” “Who taught Him what is right or show hIm what justice is?" (Isa 40:14)

  7. He is the only one who is truly great. “Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For [there is] none like You, nor [is there any] God besides You...” (2 Sam 12:22)

So, I encourage you with the words of Nehemiah. "And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, 'Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.'” (Neh 4:14)

I don’t know what you are going through this week. You may have challenges that seem overwhelming. However, God is your source for all the answers you need, and He is awesomely great.

Therefore, we "… praise Your great and awesome name-- He [is] holy.” (Ps 99:3) "For You [are] great, and do wondrous things; You alone [are] God.” (Psalm 95:3)
