NEED DIRECTION?

Yesterday, as every day, my Fitbit watch calculated my heart rate as well as how many steps I took. Some days I only take around 2,500 steps. Those days I sit at my desk in my home office. However, yesterday it said I walked over 10,000 steps. I wonder how many of those steps are directed by God?

In Psalms 37 God promises He will direct your steps as you proceed through each day. The questions that go through my mind are; how does He do that and what do those steps look like?

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Ps 37:23

There are three things this promise has for you. First, it tells us that God will steer you in the right direction. For Him to do that you must be moving forward. Standing still, or sitting down, do not allow God to direct your steps. Secondly, this scripture says the steps of a good man are “ordered.” The word "ordered” means make firm, to establish. God will establish your steps. He will place your steps on a solid footing. When God orders your steps, they are firmly placed - not slippery or sliding - but purposely and solidly placed. Thirdly, steps ordered by God also means He will help you make the best choices. He will lead you down the correct path. He will not only show you the way but get you on the right way. By praying and obeying God, you will not only receive direction but motivation to move in a certain direction. Instead of trying different routes He will inspire you, or direct you to the best route and steer you down that route. Are you are stuck and don’t know what to do? If you are uncertain of what direction to go, I want to encourage you to let God "order your steps." First, start moving, listen and obey, and in faith let God direct your movement and momentum. After you have advanced for a while, you can look back and see where you’ve been and how you have progressed. That’s when you realize God really did direct your steps as you see the corners you turned and the elevation you made. Let these words inspire you this week... “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Pr 16:9 “In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.” Pr 3:6 “Commit your way to the Lord and he will bring it to pass.” Ps 37:5
