Being "face to face" with God is a popular concept in certain Christian circles. We sing songs and post trendy memes about it on social media. But in a culture inundated with things meant to keep us from being face-to-face with anyone, I wonder if we really know how to be face-to-face with God. Meeting in person is becoming more rare especially during the coronavirus pandemic. But even prior to covid-19 phone calls for some of us were fewer than ten years earlier; countless messaging apps have eliminated any need to see or even hear one another. Even when we do find time to get together, do we spend more time looking at our phones than at each other?
Then when we worship do we expect to be able to lock eyes with God? Probably not. The same habits that keep us from connecting with people will keep us distanced from God, as well.
“Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.” Ps 105:4 BSB
Bethel Church's pastor Bill Johnson wisely said, “The quest for His face is our ultimate quest” So, what do we do? I've discovered seven simple things that will help us reconnect.

"Let His presence be your highest request and your greatest need. And may all other things become secondary in your life. If you want more of this infatuation for God's presence, or face, you can acquire it. Here are some steps you can follow:
Time with the Lord. Begin a diligent and consistent personal devotional time with the Lord. Make it be a time to read His Word, to pray, to praise Him, and to wait in His presence, listening to Him. As you get to know Him, your love for Him will grow. Before long, you will have a greater passion for more of His presence.
Shut the Door. This is the first principle Jesus taught about prayer. “When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place.” Matthew 6:6 KJV. To get face to face with God shut the door to everything else. Shut yourself in with your Father who is in the secluded place. He is there waiting. All you have to do is get in with Him and close the door.
Play Worship Music. Ana Paula Valadão enjoys playing anointed worship songs in the background as she sings her prayers and praise to God. Playing worship music creates an atmosphere and a heart posture of worship. It also gives you music to sing to.
Sing to Jesus. Remember, God reveals His face, when His children sing spontaneously to Him. Sing your extemporaneous praise and prayers to God out loud.
Read the Bible Expressively. Ana Paula highly recommends you open the Bible and read God’s word as if He is speaking directly to you. Reading God’s thoughts helps you know Him better and develop a deeper relationship with Him. Try reading the Bible out loud for a while. Hearing your own words will build your faith because faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
Take Your Time. Don’t rush, but take time to focus on Him and to fully express your desires to Him. You don't have anything more important to do. Allow a God-consciousness to slowly seep into your soul. After a while you will look forward to these times alone with the Lord.
Fast a Meal. Deny your flesh and its appetites and let your soul know that your spirit is in charge. Your spiritual passion needs to dominate over your flesh if you want to have more power to press in to encounter the manifest presence of God."
I encourage you to “Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.” Ps 105:4.
