ONE SONG CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING - Loneliness
Squinting directly into the sun, Louis saw figures floating above him in the form of humans. He counted the figures he saw - twenty-one beings in all. They were all singing the most melodious song he ever heard.
Jack Graham in this book Angels tells the story of Louis, a World War II pilot whose plane went down of the Central Pacific. He and his partner floated on a raft for 47 days. One week before they were rescued, he remembers sitting up right at the sound of singing. “It was lots of voices - a full on choir. He looked over at his buddy Phil, who seemed oblivious to the penetrating sound and then he scanned the sky – who or what was making that noise? That’s when he saw the twenty-one angels singing.
Later on, in the Japanese POW camp beaten and abused Louis heard that melody once again. Humming the tune became an inspiration of hope for him. He knew he was not alone. For Louis that one song from the other side changed things for him.
The Lord of Hosts (The Lord of Armies) is near you. He is constantly watching and has His angel armies available to help you at any time. Throughout history there are numerous stories of angels showing themselves to humans in a life or death crisis. Though we walk through the valley of the scary shadow of death we are not alone. You do not have to walk through life feeling isolated and lonely.
David was depressed and alone when he said, “Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress. My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all!” (Ps 25:16-17) Can you relate?
God told Joshua, "Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9) This is a promise that God is with you everywhere. Watching over you and protecting you. Whether you feel Him or not. Whether you sense or don't sense His presence He is there, and His angel army, to guard and guide you. You are not abandoned.
Three scriptures to remember when you feel afraid and alone.
1 Cor. 3:16 “... you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?" How much closer can the Holy Spirit get?
Joshua 1:5 “...I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will always be with you; I will never abandon you."
Deut. 31:6 "Be strong and courageous; ... For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.” (CSV)
Remember God is your companion, your Savior, and your Comforter. Find companionship and comfort in His Word. Then as you sing your prayers and praise to Him He will reveal Himself to you and you will no longer feel isolated.
Just know there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
