GOD'S CHRISTMAS GIFTS
"You will sing as on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will rejoice like one who walks to the music of a flute, going up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel.” Isaiah 30:29 BSB
Christmas is a holy celebration of the incarnation of the Son of God, commemorating that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). No event in history has birthed more music than the Festival of Christmas. The simplest and most child-like melodies are sung like “Away in a Manger" to the most majestic, symphonic masterpieces like “The Messiah.” During this season the world is filled with the joyful music of Christmas.
The promise in Isaiah 30 is that you WILL sing as during holy festivals like Christmas. If you are not sensing it now, you will. The promise is that you WILL sing. God WILL give you a melody. The day will come when you will say “He has put a new song in my mouth.” (Ps 40:3)
The reason you will sing has to do with God’s second promise to you. You WILL rejoice again. God says you WILL have a happy heart just like someone with a flute who comes to the mountain of God – the meeting of God with His people. These are your yearlong gifts and promises from God.
“Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God.” (Luke 2:13 GNT). The singing of songs this Christmas will pass, but the song that caused the angel army to sing will not. The song which the Holy Spirit imparts and implants in you will remain. You see the Holy Spirit is a singing Spirit initiating “spiritual songs” (Eph 5:19) in Mary, Elizabeth, Zechariah, Simeon, shepherds and angels. He also WILL sing through you.
Pastor Jack Hayford, author of the Christmas Miracle said, “As we sing the carols of the season, it is an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to put a song in your heart. He is always ready to overflow out of us in melody and Spirit power sufficient for every good work, for every season, and for every circumstance.”
Be encouraged! This has been a hard year and Covid Christmas is a strange Christmas for most of us. However, the promise is that your heart WILL rejoice like the happy melodies of a flute. You WILL sing because of that happiness. So sing in faith this week and look forward to these promises to be realized in your life and family.
May you have a very melodic and Happy New Year,
