My life study has been the music and the power of God’s presence. It is a theme of the many songs and numerous books that I have written, including the latest Encounter - Passionately Pursuing the Presence of God. Once again, I discovered another truth about music and the manifest presence of God.

"When Solomon finished praying, fire flashed down from heaven and burned up the... sacrifices, and the glorious presence of the Lord filled the temple.” 2 Chronicles 7:1 NLT

At the dedication of the temple, King Solomon kneels before the people and spreads out his hands to heaven and begins to sing a remarkable prayer to God. I hadn’t seen this before. Solomon sang this prayer of dedication. The word for prayer is 'tephillah' meaning a hymn of prayer.

Solomon sang, just like today, when pestilence comes, the people of God must look to Him for help. When Solomon finishes singing his prayer celestial fire suddenly falls burning up the sacrifices and filling the temple with the glory of God’s manifest presence.

When the people saw the manifest glory of God’s presence their response was to fall prostrate and worship. Then King Solomon offered 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep in worship to God followed by the priests blowing trumpets and the Levites playing harps before the Lord.

You and I are God's temple and He wants to fill you with the power and glory of His presence. How? You ask. Do you see the connection between Solomon’s prayer song and God’s manifest presence? It was in the context and atmosphere of a song, both in prayer and praise, on musical instruments and with voices, God’s glory was revealed.

Do you hunger for more of God’s presence in your life? Do you want to be closer to your Heavenly Father? The word presence in scripture in the original Hebrew language means 'face.' It has the idea of 'coming into' or 'before the face' of God.

There are three ways to get into God’s face.

  1. Come singing your prayers like Solomon. (2 Chronicles 7)

  2. Come singing your praise like David. (Psalms 22:22)

  3. Come singing God’s word like Moses. (Deuteronomy 31:30)

Be encouraged! There will be an end to this pandemic and it doesn't change God's desire for you to be a temple of His manifest presence. Sing your prayers, praise, and His word and experience His nearness.

Here are some great quotes on singing and God's presence that might encourage you.

"Your tone-deaf singing of praise to Jesus is infinitely

more beautiful than your silence” - C Scott Shepherd

"It is in the process of being worshipped that God

communicates His presence to men." - C.S. Lewis
