HOW TO VOTE AS A CHRISTIAN

“If the foundations [of a godly society] are destroyed, What can the righteous do?” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭11‬:‭3‬ ‭AMP‬‬ The answer to that question is pray and vote intelligently. This weekend Pastor Robert Morris encouraged the Gateway Church family to vote. He said, "Vote Biblical principles not what YOU think is right or wrong." In other words don't vote your conscience vote according to the truth of God's Word.

Politics can be dark and dishonest if those who are part of it are not honest and truthful. Politics sometimes can involve lobbying and posturing just as Lucifer did. "God told him by the multitude of his unrighteous lobbying" he convinced the angels to follow him, posturing himself for a revolt against God. (Ezek 28:18)

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary politics is the art and science of Government; political activities characterized by artful and often dishonest practices. That is why it is important to be knowledgeable about what is true and vote accordingly.

This can help you vote...

“For the Lord is [absolutely] righteous, He loves righteousness (virtue, morality, justice);

The upright shall see His face.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭11‬:‭7‬ ‭AMP

Because God is righteous and loves righteousness, I encourage you to vote on the character and morality of the candidate running for office and not according to party, gender, or race. None of those things qualify a person for the responsibility of representing their constituents. They may be a small consideration but the character of the person and their experience will determine how they make choices and whether they put what is right for the people they represent over posturing and personal gain.

Don't vote for those who do evil or act immorally. “The wicked, in the haughtiness of his face, will not seek nor inquire for Him; All his thoughts are, “There is no God [so there is no accountability or punishment].”” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭4‬ ‭AMP‬‬

There will be accountability and part of that is you voting, to keep them out of office. “He says to himself, “I will not be moved; For throughout all generations I will not be in adversity [for nothing bad will happen to me].”” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭6‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. What is their position on biblical issues?

  2. Do they have moral leadership qualities?

  3. Do they live and lead according to what God said?

An example of poor voting is some (well known) politicians in office today have no other qualities except they are a social media influencers, or are chosen for their skin color. They have not led anything and so do not have the leadership skills and character for the office.

Jesus said, "You can identify them, by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn-bushes, or figs from thistles?” Matt 7:16 NLT

Do they put down others? There are so many political ads that are all about smearing their opponent. Accusations or negative comments of their opponents does not qualify them for office. It can make a distinction but doesn’t tell voters why they should be elected.

Do they tell the truth? Have they been deceptive? Their marriage and family life can tell us what kind of person they are and what kind of leader they may be.

Review the candidates website keeping in mind it is what they want you to know about them. The site may be propaganda and be deceptive if the person and their team are not honest.

Faith and Freedom Coalition may also help you. They have information on each candidate running in each state and their position on issues.

Pray the Word of God during the elections. “Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand [in judgment]; Do not forget the suffering.” Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I encourage you to not believe everything you see and hear in the news or social media. We have discovered in this last few years many things we once believed to be facts are not true. There was no apology for stating these lies as news, we now know they were deceptive.

Politicians who are elected will be given power over people they lead. That power and authority comes from the One who has all power. So we must ask God to whom does He want give some of His power to represent us? With that power and authority comes responsibility. Our leaders are responsible to God and those they serve for that power.

"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." Roman 13:1 NKJV We work with God to vote those into the place of authority.

Remember one day we will judge angels. This next few weeks we will judge politicians. So, I encourage you to pray about the elections and vote. Let the righteous say so by voting and make a difference in our culture. Let's protect the innocent and keep our cities safe.
