INSECURE AND UNCERTAIN?

Have you found yourself lacking confidence and feeling insecure? Do you feel undeserving or lacking in some way? Insecurity is an uncertainty about one’s self. It is a lack of confidence in who you are and what you can do. Failures, rejection, trauma, or critical people could have contributed to your insecurity.

Self-perceptions can be badly skewed. They may be based on things said about you that are not necessarily true. They may be conclusions you made about yourself based on pop culture or just what you imagine. Those thoughts can mislead and deceive you.

"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Rom 12:2 NLT

Experts say the root cause of insecurity is fear. Fear is the DNA of the kingdom of darkness. When we say I’m afraid that I am not adequate enough or won’t have enough money, or whatever we doubt, we are speaking untruths. Those things do not exist. They are not a real thing… just a fear of what might happen.

Faith is the culture of the Kingdom. None of us are adequate, but God is. If you know intimately the One who is perfect love, He will cast out all fear. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18

Do not stream the untruths in your head and think about them constantly. If so, you will perpetuate insecurity and began to doubt yourself, circumstances, and, yes, even God. Dwelling on the negative or what might happen entrenches your insecurity and diminishes your faith. What you think about the most is where you put your energy.

You may have Inadequacies that cause you to be insecure in what you are capable of. However, even then you must remember what God’s Word says… I can do all things through Christ who enables me. (Phil 4:13)

Knowing God better will increase your faith. When your faith is in Him you can overcome all insecurities because it is not about your abilities but His. “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:19 NIV

When you think the way God thinks and align yourself with His Word your insecurity diminishes. Don’t let popular culture, social media, friends or relatives make you insecure. Remember what God’s Word says. "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." Rom 12:2 NLT

Putting your hope in other things than God will take away your security. "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God…" 1 Tim 6:17 NIV

Worry puts fuel on insecurity. Bring your concerns to God and leave them there. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Phil 4:6

Put God first and He will take care of all your needs. “So, don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matt 6:31-33
